Several years ago, the Florida state legislature developed a System of School Improvement and Accountability that returned important decisions about learning and teaching to local communities. The key to effective decision-making in Florida 's school improvement system is that those closest to the classroom and the students make more of the important decisions affecting education.
The law requires that each school establish a School Advisory Council (SAC) so that parents can work together with school staff and administrators to ensure the success of students enrolled in local schools. The majority of SAC members must represent parents and the community. All WES parents and staff are welcome to attend the meetings.
SAC meets five to six times per year and is responsible for the following deliverables:
Develop the School Improvement Plan, which includes annual school goals and activities to meet the needs and concerns of our school community;
Develop and approve spending plan if funds are received for A-school award; and
Conduct annual survey of parents and students to help identify school needs and concerns.
SAC meetings are also a great way to stay updated and raise issues and concerns with school and community leaders, parents and teachers. Principal updates and relevant updates from our Windermere mayor are usually part of the agenda. Most meetings are held in the WES Media Center .
